A Sweet Slice of Fudge
Fudge Brownies
Ingredients
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 340°F and line an 8x8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
- Microwave the butter about 15-20 seconds to melt it.
- Once the butter is melted, stir in the chocolate chips until fully melted and smooth. If necessary, microwave in 10-15 second bursts until melted completely.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, and vanilla extract until just combined. Place this bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler) and whisk gently until the sugars dissolve and the mixture is warm.
- Remove the bowl from the pot and use a hand mixer to beat the mixture on high speed until it becomes fluffy and light yellow in color, about 2-3 minutes. Reduce the speed to low and beat for another minute.
- Pour the melted butter and chocolate mixture into the egg mixture. Mix on low speed until just combined.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour and cocoa powder then sift in to the wet ingredients bowl. Gently fold to combine everything, being careful not to overmix.
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 23-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the brownies to cool in the pan on a wire rack. Once cool, lift them out using the parchment paper overhang and cut into squares.
It was one of those afternoons where time seemed to slow, and the air was filled with the promise of something sweet. She had been craving chocolate all day and knew exactly what to make: rich, decadent fudge brownies. Pulling out the ingredients from her pantry, she could already imagine the fudgy texture and warm chocolate aroma that would soon fill her kitchen.
As she began by melting the butter, the first wave of chocolate hit her senses. Stirring the chocolate chips into the melted butter, she watched them transform into a smooth, glossy mixture. It was the kind of chocolatey richness that made you want to dip a spoon right in, but she resisted—there was still more to do.
Whisking the eggs, sugars, and vanilla extract, she noticed the comforting sweetness of brown sugar mixed with the delicate aroma of vanilla. Placing the bowl over simmering water, she warmed the mixture, feeling the heat rise as the sugars dissolved. The kitchen felt alive with the scent of caramelized sugar and melted chocolate.
Once the egg mixture was light and fluffy, it was time to fold in the chocolate. She gently combined the two, marvelling at how the batter thickened into a luscious, dark concoction. Finally, she sifted in the flour and cocoa powder, careful not to overmix the batter, ensuring the brownies would have that perfect fudgy consistency.
Pouring the batter into the prepared pan, she couldn’t help but sneak a taste from the spatula—it was just as rich as she imagined. Sliding the pan into the oven, the anticipation grew. The sweet aroma of brownies filled the air, making her stomach growl in excitement.
After what felt like an eternity, the brownies emerged from the oven, their tops perfectly crackled, while the centre promised a gooey bite. She let them cool for just a few minutes, her impatience getting the best of her. Once the brownies were cool enough, she carefully lifted them out and cut into the soft, chewy squares.
The first bite was everything she hoped for. The fudgy centre melted in her mouth, with just the right balance of chocolate and sweetness. The brownies were rich, decadent, and completely irresistible—a perfect reward for the afternoon spent baking. With a plate of homemade fudge brownies and a glass of milk, she settled down, savouring each bite as the world outside melted away.
